Wanna Try Fondue?

Fondue isn’t something a lot of people do on their own these days. It may seem tedious or you might not know where to start. With a lot of trial and error we have found amazing recipes that can make a fondue night stress free!

My husband and I were first introduced to fondue from Edmonton’s restaurant “The Melting Pot.” We had a great time and we loved the fondue experience! But unless it was for an anniversary or a special night out with friends, it was just so expensive to do ($200-$300/couple). The Melting Pot does offer recipe books and we found some recipes online for some of our favorite broths and sauces that we enjoyed at the restaurant. And when we cook it at home, it’s a significant cost savings than going out! We have shared these recipes and tips with family and friends over the last few years and it has quickly become new favorite tradition.

The first thing you need would of course would be a good fondue pot. We purchased two electric fondue pots for our fondue experience! It is also handy to have some fondue skewers, and a handy “search & rescue” spoon to find any meat pieces that may fall off the skewers.

Secondly, you have to think about what meats you want to serve. Our top three are chicken, beef and shrimp. We have also tried pork and lobster.

I have marinades on my website for chicken and also for beef. Beef we will marinade overnight, up to three days before our fondue. Chicken we will marinade for 3 hours up to overnight. For shrimp we just use a simple marinade of olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt & pepper, 30 minutes to 1 hour before our fondue. I have also used this simple marinade for the chicken and it worked well.

You will cook the meats in a broth fondue. We use the same rule as The Melting Pot did. If it walks on the land, cook it for approximately 2 minutes. If it swims in the sea, cook it for approximately 90 seconds.

You can also cook veggies in the broth fondue such as par-boiled baby potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and broccoli. Just a tip: if you use the Mojo Broth, the broccoli tends to soak up a lot of the seasoning. They can be SPICY when you take a bite!

The sauces that you dip your meats in can really add to your fondue experience! For any seafood, we will buy our favorite shrimp cocktail sauce. If you make pork, plum sauce with a little bit of ginger works great. For chicken, my favorite sauce is a Creamy Curry Sauce. They used this sauce at The Melting Pot. It also goes really well with shrimp. For beef, my favorite sauce is The Green Goddess Sauce. This one is also great with chicken, dipping veggies in and also for making stuffed mushrooms.

We also like to do a cheese fondue. If you are feeling fancy, Quattro Formaggio Cheese Fondue is a great choice! It goes well with veggies, bread, crackers, even apple slices! A lot of times we just make an Extraordinary Cheese Dip instead of a cheese fondue. Its quick and much cheaper. We will serve the dip with a cut up baguette and veggies.

To finish off your fondue you need chocolate of course! I have a simple Chocolate Fondue recipe on my website. You really can’t go wrong with this recipe! We will serve it with strawberries, banana, pineapple, Oreo dipped marshmallows, and pound cake.

I hope you found this blog helpful and inspiring! Let me know how your next fondue night goes, if you have any questions or feel free to share any tips you have to make any fondue night special and seamless!
